Cell culture is a key tool in biology and medicine, enabeling research, personalized medicine, and replacement of animal tests. The idea of StruCD (Structured Culture Dishes) is to use the recently patented MicroFold technology to produce 3D-structured, stiffness-controlled, cell culture substrates, thus enabling in vitro cell-culture experiments that more closely represent the in vivo situation. Indeed, Grandview Research expects “… novel three-dimensional cell culture techniques and the growing need for them in biopharmaceutical development and vaccine production … to drive the market”.
