PRACTICAL LCA AND PCF SOLUTIONS FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED COMPANIES
Sustainability for SMEs provides practical consulting support focused on product carbon footprinting (PCF), life cycle assessment (LCA), and carbon-related decision-making support for small and medium-sized companies in Germany. Many SMEs are increasingly asked by customers, supply chain partners, and evolving regulatory requirements to provide reliable sustainability data, but often lack the time, internal expertise, and resources to build these capabilities on their own. This project addresses that need with practical, efficient, and scientifically grounded support.
With a strong background in engineering and sustainability research, the project focuses especially on manufacturing-oriented SMEs and product-based businesses. Service offerings are designed around concrete, high-value use cases such as screening LCAs, pilot PCFs for selected products, hotspot analyses, and structured support for product data collection and evaluation. The aim is to help companies obtain reliable results efficiently, understand the main environmental impact drivers of their products, and build a practical foundation for future assessments across additional products and applications.
Beyond footprint calculation, the project helps SMEs use sustainability data more effectively in business practice. This includes responding to customer and supply chain requirements, identifying relevant reduction levers, and building data structures that can support future applications such as EPDs, digital product information, and broader sustainability reporting. The overall objective is to help SMEs develop a sustainability capability that is practical, credible, and scalable.
